Indiana Brewing History

Nathan Compton (Indy Reporter/Webmaster) - Nathan is a craft beer addict, homebrewer, and member of the Foam Blowers of Indiana homebrew club. His musings on current events can be found in the Beers, Cheers, and Sneers column. Nathan's favorite beers include Founder's Red's Rye PA, Three Floyds Dreadnaught, Troegs Nugget Nectar, and Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Mediocre homebrewing accomplishments include Best of Show in the 2011 Peoria Black and Tan Challenge. Other interests include punk rock, planning family vacations around breweries, and hanging out with international burlesque celebrity Poppi Rocketts. You can contact Nathan at and maybe catch the rare Tweet @NaptownBrewPunk.
Jason Cook (Lafayette Reporter) - Jason is a Lafayette area homebrewer and Mug Club member at Lafayette Brewing Company. He was a victim of misguided influence that led to a homebrewing hobby and membership in the the Tippecanoe Homebrewers Circle. You can contact Jason at
Jake Keefer (Indy Reporter) - As a homeberwer, BJCP judge, and member of Foam Blowers of Indiana with Nathan, Jake has really taken to craft beer.  Jake is a chemist, and other passions of his include cigars and soccer.  Look for Jake at beerfests, Kahn's tastings, and Indy brewpubs and bars. You can contact Jake at and follow him on Twitter @JakeTheBrewer.
Greg Kitzmiller (Bloomington Reporter) - Greg K. feels really lucky having been able to try thousands of beers in many U.S. states and by traveling to one of every seven countries in the world and drinking local beer. Greg loves beer and has judged at competitions ranging from the Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky State Fairs to local and regional competitions in several states. His favorite beer event ever has been the Twenty-Four Hours of Belgian Beer hosted by Zythos in Belgium. Greg always stresses that Indiana is lucky to have so many breweries and brewpubs with great local craft beer. You can contact Greg at and follow him on Twitter @GregKitz.

Cindy Modesitt (Ft. Wayne Reporter) - Cindy was introduced to the craft beer scene in 2003 and is still on a mission to sample as many craft beers as possible. She joined in 2003 and became the website's #1 Female beer rater in the country. She currently is the website's #2 Female beer rater in the U.S. despite having a major backlog of beer ratings to be entered. Cindy has traveled around the U.S. and to Europe seeking out new beers and her favorite styles include Belgian Strong, Dopplebock, Porter, Stout, German Hefeweizen, and Brown Ale to name a few. A story and interview about Cindy's passion for craft beer can be found at and one of her ratings was quoted in the book Travels with Barley - A Journey through Beer Culture in America by Ken Wells. Cindy has written for since 2008 and can be contacted at

Bob Ostrander ("Retired" Founder) - Our legendary founder started back in 2003 but has mostly gone away as has his liver. That's not entirely true as you can still catch nuggets of info from Bob in his "Dribs and drams" blog postings. Bob co-authored the book Hoosier Beer: Tapping into Indiana Brewing History that chronicles the contributions of over 350 licensed breweries to Indiana brewing since 1816. You can contact Bob at
Kevin Pritchard (Indy Reporter) - Kevin started homebrewing with the infamous Mr. Beer Kit over five years ago with his good friend Matt O. Together, after advancing to more complex brewing techniques, they won first place in the Indiana Brewer's Cup and a silver medal in the National Homebrew Competition. Additionally, Kevin is a beer judge under the BJCP and a co-founding member of the Homebrewer's Association of IUPUI. You can catch him at La Margarita in Fountain Square if he isn't feeling like living the life of an impoverished grad student. You can contact Kevin at
Kathleen Slauzis (Indy Reporter/Social Media Coordinator) - About three years ago, Kathleen saw the light that is craft beer and hasn't turned back since. More of a social brewery butterfly than a homebrewer, Kathleen can be found frequenting tapping parties, beer events, or just stopping into breweries or brewpubs for a taste or pint. She is a lover of social media and uses the power of Twitter, Facebook, and to share experiences with her beer brethren. Kathleen's general favorite beer styles are porters and stouts, but her latest infatuation is with saisons. Kathleen's favorite breweries include The Bier Brewery, Black Swan Brewpub, New Belgium, and Breckenridge and her favorite beers include Brecekenridge Vanilla Porter, Brugge Brasserie Harvey Sour Ale, and The Bier Brewery's Sessie. You can contact Kathleen at and follow her on Twitter for more fun @KJLSlauzis.
