Elevator Brewing Company

You'll find Elevator Brewing Company right smack in the middle of downtown Columbus, OH. It occupies the Columbia Building, registered as a National Historic Place. Elevator faithfully preserves this historic atmosphere but dresses it up with an ultra-cool icey-blue touch.

The building was built in 1897 by the Bott family to house the Bott Brother's Billiards and a gentleman's saloon. A beautiful hand-carved, hand-split Philippine mahogany bar was created to serve the whisky distilled on the second floor. Prohibition took its toll and the building fell into disrepair until restored decades later. The luxurious back-bar won the coveted blue ribbon for craftsmanship at the 1893 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

Large, original stained-glass windows line the south and west walls. They are surrounded by ornately carved wood and punctuated with original oil paintings. The century-old floors are elegantly patterned with tiles, and very available space is bathed in an iridescent blue- including the tin ceiling, glass chiller, bar, and other spaces not easily described.

Almost every menu item from Chef Nate Crockett (he's been with Elevator from the beginning) is under $10. If you order a beer sampler you will be treated with fresh bread and whipped garlic butter. Cleanses the palate. Like most brew pubs, they have a beer sampler on the menu- both 3 and 6 beers for the average Joe... and for the thirsty, a 12-beer sampler which includes 5 ounces of their standard and seasonal beers in each glass. $12. cheap!

From left to right above... Lift Light, Xtra, Belgium Wit (seasonal), Hefewiezen ***, Walloon Saison (seasonal) **, California Common (seasonal), 13th Floor Pale Ale, Necessity IPA **, Bleeding Buckeye Red Ale, Dirty Dick's Nut Brown Ale, Coal Porter *, Procrastinator Dopplebock. [ * = great, ** = WOW!, *** = suprisingly awesome]
