Mahon's Mash

January, 2007

Hello! Remember me? It's been quite a while since I posted anything. I looked back through my notes and found I haven't posted anything since October. So here I am going through 3 months of notes.

So let's get started

I finally made a trip down to Columbus, IN to visit the Columbus Bar since I hadn't been there yet. I found it to be a smallish bar with an excellant tap selection! 20 taps and no crap to be seen. Beer such as Bell's Hop Slam, Arogant Bastard, Alpha King, Dead Guy, Founders Centenial IPA to name a few. Plus a good selection of various style glasses to serve the various beer styles in! Something you don't see everywhere. Food was good pub style grub. There was a Brew Sculpture off to one side that I salivated over...it had a HLT, Mah Tun, Boil Kettle, 20+ gallon fermenter.

Boy what I could do with that!

On to bigger and better things!

By the time you read this the Lafayette Brewing Company's Winter Warmer 2007 will be history. Look for my report on it soon. Anyhoo...I made the trip to LBC back in December after the tickets went on sale, one to get my tickets, and two...drink some fabulous beer, what else! I really like their Oatmeal Stout!

That just about catches me up...

Ok what's next....

Oh yea...As a member of Rock Bottoms Mug Clug, I get regular notices of upcoming events. In January new Head Brewer at the Rock Bottom College Park Liz Laughlin hosted her first solo tapping party. It was one of the last beers that Iain had brewed. A very tasty beer indeed.

Ok enough of ancient history....

I stopped in at Barley Island recently, checkng to see if Jon has any of his Bourbon Barrel beer on tap...sadly I was a day early. I really love his Bourbon Barrel Series beer! As was reported by Bob O... Barley Island is getting a new bottling machine, and they are in the process of building a new cold room. Demand is up and from what I hear Distribution has take their beers into Illinois. Good news indeed!

Onward we go...

Not long ago I was able to get downtown to check out some of my favorite haunts. First up is Alcatraz On tap they had.....Searchlite Golden Ale, Pelican Pale Ale, Weiss Guy Wheat, Big House Red, Have a Ball Stout, Strong Ale, and a Saison. I had a pint of the Strong Ale. If I was one of those people that reviews and rates beers, I could come up with some fancy way to tell you...MMM Tasty!

I continued over to Rock Bottom for lunch. On tap at Rock Bottom they had...Circle City Light, Hefe, Sugar Creek Pale, Racoon Red, Brickway Brown, Hoosier Ma Stout, a Tripple called Trouble Ale, and a Belgian Abbey called Blizzard Ale. I went aheat and had the Blizzard Ale. Lots of Anise in the nose and taste....Interesting!

My final stop on this particular day was at the BW3's. I've been wanting to talk to Mike for a while. Look for some big changes to the Downtown BW3's this year! Here is the draft list as of 1-24-07.

For those who like vintage beer, Mike is haveing a beer tasting which includes at least 2 vintage beers along with dinner on Mar 3rd. Contact Mike for more information

Well that's all I have for you. Until next time, I leave you with this thought...

Life should not be a journey to the grave, with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, beer in one hand, a cigar in the other, body thoroughly used up... totally worn out... screaming.... WOO HOO! What a ride!
