The 2005 Brewers Cup competition nearly doubled in size this year, almost overwhelming event coordinators and volunteers. To handle the growth of the competition, Anita Johnson of Great Fermentations announced that a BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) exam will be held in Indianapolis in March of next year. If beer is your passion, your expert opinion will be needed next year. See the BJCP website for details. Now for some photos of the event...
BJCP Judges Rick Sullivan and Dan Rice were just a couple of many judges to volunteer their time at this year's Brewer's Cup competition. Drinking beer all day... tough job!
30 labels submitted (above) and Mark Schiess took first place with #10 "Benevolent Lady Mild Brown Ale"
Conjuring up as many awards as he can hold, Mark Schiess (last year's best in show winner) has been a prolific brewer this year, taking home 8 ribbions for various style categories.
The Duneland Homebrewer's Club showed up in numbers... and took home a few awards as well!
Pro Brewers Tim Price of Oaken Barrel and Tim Marshall of Rock Bottom (Warrenville) would need a scale to weigh all their medals. Other breweries were multiple winners as well, but these guys seriously made out big.
Children are often the inspiration for great beers!!
And above we have the Home Brewing Club of the Year, the Foam Blowers of Indiana, which served up several brews at the reception. |
