Mahon's Mash

Hello again. Well it really has been a while since I posted last. I've been really swamped with work and stuff around the house, that I haven't had time to set down and put all my notes together. So here we go.....Well lets see where to start...

Ok on July 28th Jeremy Cowan of He'Brew The Chosen Beer, again had a release party at MacNivens. This year it was for Genesis 10:10. A 10% AVB beer, brewed with chosen specialty Malts, Hops, Yeast, and Pomegranate Juice. Yes you read that right Pomegranate Juice! It was a limited release beer, but you may still find some on your local liquor store shelves.
He also had another beer that he served up the following day at the Microbrewers fest Fest at Opti Park. This one was called Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A...a Rye based Double IPA. Brewed with an obscene ammount of Malts and Hops! Also weighing in at 10% ABV. This is Jeremy's tribute beer to Lenny Bruce. I've seen this in several places around town...so check it out

The following day I attended the Microbrewers fest. Luckily I got in before the big crowds and was able to sample some great beer without having to wait in line...A most excellant day.

On Aug 17 I attended the annual business meeting for the Foam Blowers of Indiana. For those that do not know, this is the local Indianapolis area AHA sanctioned Homebrewers Club. We met at the Ram, which just so happened to coincide with Dave and Clays release of their latest creation Tangerine Creme Dream....if you haven't tried this yet, you better stop in soon because it won't be around long...Any ways...

The Foam Blowers, or FBI as we are called had our annual business meeting, and one of the things brought up was a way of attracting new members. Well guess what? That is exactly what I am using this particular forum for. Are you a homebrewer?

Maybe you have been thinking about becoming one.....or maybe you just want more info into the exciting field of Homebrewing! Maybe you just want more information about the FBI....Ok then.......what are you doing setting there wishing or wondering....you know what to do right? Well do you? Check out the links I provided, or you can email at Mark@Indianabeer.com, and I'll make sure you get everything you need. Sounds easy enough right?

Ok..so on we go....On Aug 26 I again joined some Foam Blowers and a few other people...make that 32 people...for a bus tour Pub Crawl.

We left the parking lot at 71st and Binford at 1130, and headed out north to Castleton, where our first stop was at the Ale Emporium

Where we has some great lunch and a few beers. The we hopped back on the bus and headed north again to Barley Island
We followed that up by stopping in at the College Park Rock Bottom, followed by the Yorkshire Rose in Carmel, and finally a little hole in the wall place called The Mousetrap on Keystone Ave...at least they had Bells Two Hearted on tap!

On Aug 31 The wife and I attended the Barley Hop Academy Tasting/Dinner put on by Brian Graham, of Dick's Bodacious BBQ, and Courtney Hall of The Hop Shop. It was held at the A to Z Cafe. Speakers for the evening were Mike Deweese of BW3's fame, the person with possibly the biggest beer cellar in the midwest along with Nick Floyd. Yes the one famous for such fantastic beers as Dreadnaught, Gumballhead, Alpha King, etc...At this particular dinner we had 12 beers paired with 3 courses of food. Needless to say I had a really great time! Here is a list of what we sampled

Arcadia IPA
Sam Smith IPA
Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA
Founders Centennial IPA
Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA
Three Floyds Alpha King Pale Ale

And finally....alright quit cheering....The wife and I are heading out to Denver again this year to support, and to report on, how well our Indiana brewers do in the largest beer judging competition in the country. That's right The Great American Beer Festival! This year Indiana is represented by the following Breweries

Barley Island
Brugge Brasserie
Ram
Rock Bottom - Downtown
Rock Botton - College Park
Three Floyds
Turoni's
Upland

The very best news about GABF...at least it was great new for me... came from Nick Floyd himself... originally they submitted beer for judging only. But Nick told me at the Beer Dinner, that they will have a table for this years GABF! This is really great news indeed.

Stay tuned here for more info on the GABF, as I get ready to head out to Denver. Also if any of you aout there in ethernet land are planning on attending...drop me a line. Maybe we can meet up, and have a few. Till next time...
